September 2019 Meeting Minutes

Gettysburg Garden Club Meeting Minutes September 27, 2019

President Robin Kendlehart presided.  Robin introduced the Club’s officers, suggested that new people in these positions and a new year invite change and present new opportunities to get involved. Club members were invited to let her know about their interest in two vacant positions– the Garden of the Month Committee and History and Scrapbook Committee.

Recording Secretary’s Report: Pam Haze reported that the May 23 Club meeting notes were approved and posted on the Club’s website and August 6 Board meeting notes were distributed to Board members.

Treasurer’s Report:  Connie Holland reviewed the May/June 2019 Treasurer’s Report including earnings from the spring plant sale, revenues and disbursements from the luncheon that essentially net out, and payments for sponsorship of the Main Street Gettysburg Christmas festival, Lincoln Square flowers, and the annual payment to GCFP ($10 per member). She informed the Club that there are members who are chronically late paying dues despite many reminders causing additional work for the Club and GCFP and suggested a possible $5 fine for late payment of dues.

Connie talked about the 2019-2020 budget noting that funds are set aside for a 60-year anniversary celebration (the Club was created in 1960), scholarships are increased to $1,500, and reserve funds. Betty Pue made a motion to adopt the proposed budget and Pam Haze seconded the motion, which received Club approval by voice vote.

Corresponding Secretary’s Report: Charlotte Melchiorre reported that birthday cards were sent to Sustaining Members Marilyn Meixell, Barbara Gilliam, and Ruth Jeanne Bream, and to Honorary Member Peggy Reynolds. A sympathy card was sent to Betty Pue on the passing of her Uncle Horace. An anniversary card was sent to Mary and Paul Deignan. Charlotte read thank you cards received from Karen Szoke for the Club’s life membership gift and from scholarship recipients Fritz Meixner, Samantha Schulteis, and Cody Smith.

Membership Report: Regina Hollar thanked Cindy Wilcox for help in transitioning into the position as chair of the Membership Committee.

Ways and Means Report:  Betty Pue reminded members that participation and support are essential to the success of the Club’s two major fund raising events – the spring plant sale and the Christmas greens and gourmet gift sale. She asked Club members to participate in workshops planned for Wednesday, October 2 and Thursday, October 3, from 9 am to 12 noon, to be held at Betty’s home.

Old Business – Presentation of Laurel: Karen Szoke, former president presented a certificate recognizing Robin Kendlehart’s leadership and contributions to the Club as Ways and Means Committee chair during the last two years.

President’s Report: Robin introduced Patricia Green as the new chair of the Publicity Committee and asked that all announcements, articles, and publications (materials that represent the Club to the public) be reviewed by and coordinated with Patricia. Patricia will be the single point of contact for publicity.

Publicity Report: Patricia reviewed recent articles written by Club members.

Hostess and Hospitality Committee: Pat Hinkle thanked Len Williams for the day’s hospitality and Len thanked Ann Gilbert, Pattie Barr, Gloria Yohe, Karen Miller, and Linda Spellman. Pat asked Club members to contact her if the date for their participation on the Committee does not work for them.

Programs Committee: Noemi Halbrendt introduced the program for the day, a Make and Take Brown Bag led by Connie Holland.
