General Meeting Minutes April 28, 2015
President Carol Heiser presided.
Announcements:
- Connie Holland is the new District IV Horticulture Chair.
- The Club’s Publicity Press book, compiled by Karen Szoke, won second place at the State level. Congratulations to Karen.
- Lynn Skopic’s Trash to Treasure won second place at the District IV meeting and a $20 award for the Club. Congratulations to Lynn.
- GGC received SEED money of $50 for grieving children’s garden plus a personal donation of $50.
Secretary’s Report: Minutes were accepted.
Treasurer’s Report: YTD $13,348.89 with details filed for audit. March Yard Sale netted $59.
Civic Development:
Tulips were wonderful. Kudos go to Linda and her committee. Annuals will be planted on May 19, at 8 am. Need two people to cut tulips on April 20. See Linda. Carol announced the Gettysburg High School football team is seeking civic project and offered to help GGC – possibly with mulching Square.
Downtown Flower Project: Elm Street will continue to water this season. Last season they put a $9000 charge on their books for this service and indicated they want cost sharing with GGC next season. Stephanie Mc Ilwee of Elm Street will attend our next meeting.
Fire Department is seeking ideas for how to screen the view from the large inside lobby window. Send ideas to Carol.
Programs: Program today is Appalachian Trail. Next month is conditioning flowers by Robin.
Corresponding Secretary: Grace reviewed details of one get-well card and a birthday card sent to sustaining member Barbara Spicer. Received one thank you card.
Membership: Regina welcomed new member, Penny Ziegler. It was announced that former member Eileen Holmes had passed away.
Ways & Means: Kathy Murphy announced an additional potting workshop May 9 at Edie’s barn at 9 am. Need help the Friday before the sale at 1 pm to load plants for delivery to Fire Station parking lot early on the morning of the sale, May 21. Members should wear GGC Tee shirts and floral hats to the sale.
Yard of the Month: Connie Wehler reported on activities. Cornelia and Donna Almquist were YOM guest members. Lake Heritage declined to participate in YOM due to restrictions.
Scholarship: Motion passed to award a third $1000 scholarship. Gloria read synopsis of the winners’ submissions.
Hospitality: Thanks to Mike and Kathy Gelner, Alice Boeshore, and Linda Kane-Taylor for the creative Appalachian themed refreshments.
